This includes my past work as a reporter for Point Park University's student newspaper, "The Globe." These are mostly sports stories but there's also a feature story at the top and a freelance article from a sports website I worked with last summer.

When Amber Liggett opened up her first balloon kit on a Christmas morning she quickly inflated a balloon, twisted it into a dog, and then crafted a giraffe and a zebra before she even looked at the book of balloon shapes.

Within a few months, nine-year-old Amber was making hats, flowers, swords and becoming so proficient at balloon art that her mother helped her set up a table at a community event where she earned 100 dollars crafting balloons for one 1 dollar each.

“Every one of the kids that came by to get a balloon were so happy afterwards and it made me happy,” said Amber,” I could definitely see myself having an awesome, large business..."

After spending nine seasons with the Vikings and, before that, five seasons with the Bills, it looks like Antoine Winfield will finish his career playing with the Seattle Seahawks.

Winfield will be looking to win his first Superbowl ring with the Seahawks, a triumph that has alluded the franchise since its inaugural season back in 1976.

“I knew Seattle had a great team,” Winfield said. “I just wanted a chance to compete for a championship, and I thought my best place to go was here..."

Freshman Kayla Bentham’s goal in the 85th minute was not enough for Point Park, as the women’s soccer team fell to non-conference opponent Geneva College 4-2 on Wednesday.

“I was just trying to get it into the box,” said Bentham on the phone, “I ended up shooting it on target and it sailed over the top of the keepers hands into the left side of the net...”

One of the highest scoring players in university history, T.J.Heatherington’s illustrious basketball career here at Point Park has come to a close.

Heatherington started playing basketball as soon as his hands were big enough to pick up a ball. When he was really small, around two or three, he started off shooting volleyballs before working his way up to a basketball. His father was a high school girls basketball coach and he always brought T.J. with him to the YMCA.

“I was always around a gym so it kind of just came hand in hand,” said Heatherington during an interview Sunday in the Boulevard Apartments..."

The Pioneers suffered a 101-94 loss against Daemen College at Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) South on Wednesday, Feb. 13, as Daemen College’s pair of 30 point scorers proved to be too much to overcome.

Casey Sheehan made big plays for the Wildcats every time Point Park tried to take over the lead. Point Park closed the gap to 82-81 after junior guard Gabe McNeal scored two free throws with 5:54 to go in the second half, but Sheehan scored two three-pointers, followed by a transition layup to put Daemen up 95-85 with 2:00 left to play. Sheehan’s game high 31 points were enough to get him past the 1,000 career point milestone.

“He was pretty quick and he was having a good shooting night,” said senior point guard T.J. Heatherington over the phone Sunday afternoon. “We were just having trouble staying on him...”

Senior point guard T.J. Heatherington’s 42-point explosion led the Pioneers to a 110-97 home victory against Berea College in Kentucky.

The victory was an important win against a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) opponent. Point Park needs to win conference game if they want to host a playoff game later this month.

“I’m just happy that we won,” said Heatherington during a phone interview. “It was a huge conference win...”

Point Park University men's basketball team got back into action with an 83-70 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference [KIAC] win at Cincinnati Christian University after a nine day layoff.

Senior canter Babatunde Somoye had a big game with 14 points and 17 rebounds on the night.

"Babs probably played his best game since the beginning of the season," said freshman forward Matt Noszka.

Junior guard Gabe McNeal led the team in scoring with 29 points along with three assists and seven rebounds. Senior guard T. J. Heatherington had 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Noszka had eight points, three rebounds and one assist...
